Editorial: Secret
“Illuminate me” stems from the intrinsic desire to be penetrated intimately. The contradiction between the introspection of the act and the vulnerability of appearance, where transparency reveals the details that carry fragilities, while what there is to hide remains in equal measure.
Light emerges as an instrument of approach and discovery. Just as a lamp seeks to illuminate what lies before it, the gaze seeks to access the other’s secret while concealing its own. Between exposure and defense, an ambiguous relationship with light is established, like the light that passes through a door as it opens. Simultaneously, there is the desire to allow entry and the impulse to protect whatever remains on the other side.
