Emerging from the vibrant queer scenes of Latin America and Europe, artist and producer KMILA presents her latest work, Fantasía 97 — an EP that is both a personal manifesto and a sonic fantasy. Officially released on June 20 via SoundCloud, Spotify, and Bandcamp, the project invites listeners into an emotional and genre-bending journey, where softness meets intensity and freedom takes center stage on the dance floor.
With Fantasía 97, KMILA crafts a sonic world that merges techno, trance, and Latin rhythms, guided by a minimalist, club-oriented sensibility. The EP weaves together deep basslines, punchy kicks, luminous melodies, powerful percussion, and soft vocals — all of which come together to form a sound that is as danceable as it is emotionally resonant.
At the heart of the project lies a desire to create a space of liberation, transformation, and fantasy — especially on the dance floor.

Q&A with KMILA
The title Fantasía 97 has a nostalgic and dreamlike vibe. What kind of fantasy do you want to convey to those who listen to the album?
I want to transmit a fantasy where anyone can imagine themselves as whoever they want to be on the dance floor, feeling free, sensual, powerful, fierce.
Fantasía 97 brings together sweetness and darkness, lightness and depth. What inspired you to explore these emotional contrasts in your sound?
It was an attempt to fuse the genres I listen to and dance the most, and romanticize them through my personality. For example, the heavy bass and kicks from techno, bright trance melodies, and joyful percussions, mixed with the cute and genuine side of who I am, along with my darker and more intense thoughts.
You describe the EP as a reflection of different sides of your personality. Was there a specific moment or emotion that sparked the creation of this project?
Yes, it was a feeling of frustration, or rather an identity crisis — wanting to change my lifestyle and fully commit to what truly makes me happy, which is music, and letting go of past habits and activities, especially work-related ones.
Your music blends techno, trance, and Latin rhythms. How do you approach mixing these genres, and how have they influenced your development as a music producer and DJ?
My first interaction with these genres comes from being a consumer and staying connected to what’s happening in the music scene where I move — the Latin underground and queer spaces. When it comes to production, I’m still exploring my sound, playing around, experimenting, and learning different techniques and genres.
